(Sanjika Palace, 24th June 2016)

Your Excellency Madam Dr. Gertrude Mutharika, First Lady of the Republic of Malawi,

Hon. Vincent Ghambi, Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology,

Councilor Noel Chalamanda, the Mayor of Blantyre City Assembly,

Teachers and students present here,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good Morning. It’s a great honor and pleasure for me to attend the National Winner Award ceremony of “My Clean School, My Pride” Campaign, which was initiated by Her Excellency Madam Dr. Gertrude Mutharika, the First Lady of the Republic of Malawi.

The First Lady, through the Beautify Malawi Trust (BEAM), has desired to increase access to improved sanitation. Such vision is echoed by the Chinese government and people, including the Chinese Embassy. Last month, we donated three advanced sanitation trucks to BEAM, which will significantly improve the capacity of waste disposal of cities in Malawi.

I myself, in particular, admire the commitment of Her Excellency the First Lady to the well-being of Malawian People. When receiving the invitation letter to serve as Guest of Honor for this ceremony, I felt so proud and accepted the offer without any hesitation.

Her Excellency the First Lady told me that this campaign aims at encouraging and enhancing good sanitation practices in schools. I think it is indeed very important. If we want to create a cleaner and healthier nation, we must raise public awareness on appropriate waste disposal management. In our daily lives, poor hygiene easily causes diseases. If you get sick, you cannot go to school to learn and play with other children. So paying attention to sanitation is very important.

I would like to congratulate all participants here, especially the winners of the campaign. To show our support to this Campaign, we have donated TV screen, Laptop computers, footballs, netball uniforms and football uniforms as prizes for you. I also hope that all of you will not only compete in keeping your schools and homes green and clean, but also extend the spirit you have showcased in this campaign to your studies and lives later. I believe it will make big difference.

As the Ambassador of China to Malawi, I also want to take this oppotniry to introduce my country to you. China and Malawi are far away from each other, but the relationships between our two countries are very close. The population of China is 1.38 billion, which is the biggest in the World. Covering approximately 9.6 million square kilometers, China is the world's third largest country by land area

Thirty years ago, China and Malawi are at the same stage of development. After 30 years of rapid development, China has become the second largest economy in the world. You are the future of Malawi, I hope you can study hard and make contribution to the development of Malawi.

Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 8 years ago, relations between China and Malawi have developed fast. I hope some of you can have the chance to further your study in China and act as the envoy of friendship between our two countries. The Chinese Embassy in Malawi will render assistance to you within our capacity.

Last but not the least; I want to express my gratitude to H.E. the First Lady again for inveting me to this auspicious function, and wish the campaign and ceremony great success.

  Thank you!
