(Bingu International Conference Center, July 7, 2016)

Your Excellency Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi and Your Excellency Madame Dr. Gertrude Mutharika, First Lady of the Republic of Malawi,

Right. Hon. Dr. Chilima, Vice President of the Republic of Malawi and Madame Mary Chilima,

Honorable Ministers,Diplomatic corps and distinguished guests,

Good evening. I am very pleased to have all of you here to join me for the performance of celebrating the 60th anniversary of China-Africa Diplomatic Relations.

It was 60 years ago that the Arab Republic of Egypt became the first African country to establish diplomatic relations with China, which opens a new era of China-Africa relations.

In the past 60 years, China and Africa firmly support each other, which set a good example for South-South cooperation. Looking back at the history, China has rendered selfless support to the fight for liberation of African countries, which helps African countries obtain political and national independence. Nowadays, China is committed to further supporting the development of Africa, which I believe will assist African countries to achieve economic independence and to win the battle against poverty.

Dear friends, ladies and gentlemen,

Yesterday, July 6th also marks the 52nd anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Malawi. I would like to take this opportunity to join all Malawian people to celebrate this important day. Your Excellency President Mutharika, I want to report to you, that H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, President of China has sent a congratulatory letter to Your Excellency yesterday. In his letter, President Xi Jinping said, I quote,

On the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Malawi, I wish to extend, on behalf of Chinese people and in my own name, sincere congratulations and best wishes to you, and through you to the friendly Malawian people.

In his letter, President Xi Jinping continue to say that He attaches great importance to the development of China-Malawi relations, and H.E. President Xi said he is willing to make concerted efforts with Your Excellency to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries, and push the relations to a new high.

Dear friends, ladies and gentlemen,

China and Africa, and Malawi in particular, are good friends. In fact, we are all-weather friends. With our joint effort, China-Africa cooperation will bear more fruit, and constantly benefit Malawian people and African people at large. I firmly believe that if China and Africa work together to develop a win-win cooperation, our world will become a better one.

Today, for the purpose of celebrating China-Africa relations and the Independence Day of Malawi, we have invited a professional art troupe from China. And the Malawian cultural troupe will also perform. They will perform Martial Arts, acrobatics and dances, etc. I believe all of you will enjoy the wonderful shows this evening.

To conclude my remarks, I want to extend my best wishes to all of you.

May China-Africa friendship last forever!

May the Republic of Malawi enjoy prosperity!

May the people of Malawi enjoy happiness!

Thank you very much!
