Members of the Chinese Medical Team,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am very glad to present here today. First of all, please allow me to extend my thanks to all the members of the Chinese Medical Team for their wonderful performance in Malawi. I also wish to thank the Ministry of Health of Malawi for the support it gives to the Chinese Medical Team.

Soon after the establishment of diplomatic relations, China sent its first medical team to work in Kamuzu Central Hospital and Mzuzu Central Hospital respectively. Over the past two years, the Chinese medical team has provided excellent medical service to the local people. Through their efforts, many seriously ill patients’ lives were saved, and many people regained the hope for life.

The hard working spirit and humanitarianism of the Chinese Medical Team has won the praises of the Malawian Government and people. The Chinese doctors also admire this beautiful land and the people living on it. I was told that six of them have chosen to work in Malawi for another two years.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Health is one of the key areas in the cooperation between China and Malawi. I wish to assure you that in the days to come, the Chinese Government will continue to enhance the exchanges and cooperation between our two countries in the field of health. Next week, the second Chinese Medical Team of 10 members will arrive in Lilongwe. And I am happy to inform you that, Hon. Mr. Chen Zhu, Minister of Health of China has invited his counterpart Hon. David Mpande to lead a delegation to visit China this year. Besides Beijing, The delegation will visit the Shaanxi Province, where the Chinese medical team comes from.

Finally, I wish the members of Chinese Medical Team who will go back to China a safe and sound journey. I hope that all of you will continue to support the development of China-Malawi friendly relations and make new contributions in promoting the friendship between our two peoples.
