All dear press friends present here,

   My wife and Councilor Zhou,

   Ladies and Gentlemen,

   Good Afternoon.

Today, I am feeling very sad to say goodbye to my dear friends of Malawi, I love to stay here for some more years to join you to witness some more progresses of your great country. But this is a diplomat, I can not do whatever I like or unlike to do.

I am also feeling not only great honor and privilege, but also very proud to see about 30 Malawian media and median institutions, almost all the Malawian media, representing the Malawian people, get together here to bid a farewell to me as the first Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Malawi and to my wife and offered me the Distinguished Media Relations Award. And indeed, so many friends from all the media in Malawi present here today are more than enough to show me we are true friends and dear brothers. This is the greatest honor and glory for me to end my duties in this great country. Sometimes, some international partners asked me why China is about to do so much in Malawi and what China expects to have in return. Today, you are here to give them the answers. This is what I dreamed and expected to have and I got it today. That is true and sincere friendship and partnership.

I think this is not only an extremely great honor for myself, for my Embassy and my country, but also a precious encouragement and high expectation from our dear Malawian brothers and sisters. I will never take it for granted. Instead, I will cherish it forever and never forget Malawi is my second home, which I love so much and will do my best wherever I will go to promote the existing friendship and partnership, which I served and I am proud of, to grow from strength to strength to benefit our two peoples.

       Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Sometimes, some press friends keep asking me what major achievements I have made during my duty in Malawi. Yes, with the joint efforts of our two governments and peoples, we have witnessed a lot of achievements, which are so visible, tangible and remarkable. The New Parliamentary Building had been completed and put into fully operation. The Karonga_Chitipa Road has witnessed substantial progress and will be completed and fully open to traffic before the end of 2011. The framework buildings of Five-Star Hotel and International Conference Center will be completed before Christmas Day this year and fully completed before the end of June, 2012. The construction of Malawi University of Science and Technology will commence before the end of this year and be completed before the end of 2013.The Balaka Cotton Growing and Processing project has witnessed two harvests by creating 1300 jobs to the local people and benefiting 150000 local farmers and the cooking oil will from Balaka this year instead of importing from out of Malawi.

Besides the landmark projects mentioned above, 57 Malawian have enjoyed Chinese government scholarship in China and 30 more this year will go to study in China, including some media friends. In the past two years, more than 630 Malawian government officials or professional personnel including 38 press friends have been invited to China either for official visits or technical training program and seminars.

But in my view, the most important achievement I have made and I am proud of in my duty in Malawi is that China and Malawi have become true, sincere and close friends from very new friends within such a short period. I fully represent my country and Chinese people and fulfill all the commitments the Chinese government made to the Malawian government at a record efficiency. Now, both Malawian government and people know very well who I am, where I am from, what China is. We know each other and help each other sincerely and brotherly.

       Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I cannot, should not and shall not forget it is you the Malawian media who help me to fulfill my duties successfully and win my honor in Malawi.

I cannot, should not and shall not forget it is you the Malawian media who follow me traveling around Malawi times to times, from south to north, from east to west, encourage me and guide me to do whatever I can do better to benefit our two peoples.

I cannot, should not and shall not forget it is you the Malawian media who keep telling the Malawian government and people who I am, what I am doing and what I have done in Malawi and let me known very well all over Malawi. It is you who surprise me that the people in the remote villages can call me full name correctly.

I cannot, should not and shall not forget it is you the Malawian media who toured to China and promote what China is today and what kind of bilateral relationship is in the best interest of Malawi and its people through your media to Malawi and Africa as a whole. It is you build the bridge for our two peoples to communicate each other and understand each other so that the bilateral relationship between our two countries and two peoples has developed so rapidly and fruitfully.

I would like to take this special occasion to say from the bottom of my heart big and sincere thanks to you all, the Malawian media, on behalf of the Chinese government, Chinese people and in my own name. Thanks a lot.

And I would also like to sincerely thank Mr.M'theto Lungu, Chairperson of Bwaila Media Club and his team for this kind initiative and their precious efforts to create such a dear and very unique opportunity for us all to say goodbye together.

And it is my sincere hope that the existing sincere friendship and partnership, and especially the distinguished relations between Malawian media and the Chinese Embassy will be cherished and continued and growing from strength to strength when my successor Amb. Pan Hejun come to fulfill his duty in Malawi.

       Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen,

Before I end my speech, I would like to seek your kind understanding on one concept or idea that both your traditional friends and new friends such as China are the friends of Malawi. Whoever do good to Malawi and her people shall be encouraged and appreciated.

Yes, indeed, China has done something special and productive to Malawi and Africa as a whole. But we understand very clearly that the contributions of China to Malawi are parts of the joint efforts of all the international partners to help Malawi and African countries to sustain peace, stability and prosperity. We are living in a single earth village. To help people in need is to help ourselves. China does not have any intention to compete with or challenge any of your traditional donors and partners but instead is ready to do something possible within our best capacities to join hands together with all the international partners to do something better to serve the sustainable peace and common prosperity of Malawi and African countries.

       Mr. Chairperson, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I am leaving Malawi not only with my personal pride, but also a wonderful and extraordinary experience and impressions of this great people and country. It has become the second milestone in my diplomatic life. I will cherish it well for ever and will do my best to further promote our existing cordial relationship and partnership sincerely and positively wherever I am.

I would like to end me speech here by telling you a surprising news that my wife took a lead and mobilized all the wives of the diplomats in my embassy to write a book called The Wives of Diplomats in Malawi, with a view to telling Chinese what they have seen, experienced and thought in Malawi and promoting the beautiful and positive picture of Malawian people, culture, nature and life and the cordial relations between China and Malawi. I am very sure this is the first book about Malawi written by Chinese in Malawi. It is our sincere hope that the Book, which will be published next month in China, will promote our mutual understanding and more Chinese investors and tourists to Malawi.

Thank you all for your kind attention!
