Remarks by H.E. AmbassadorShi-Ting WangAt the Send-off Ceremony for the Malawian Athletes

2016-07-24

Honourable Jappie Mhango, Minister of Home Affairs and Internal Security,

Mr. Masauko Medi, Chief Immigration Officer,

Mr. James Chuma, Chairman of Malawi National Council of Sports,

Athletes, Officials, Distinguished Guests,

Friends from Media,

Welcome to the Chinese Embassy. Today, we are gathered here for two reasons. First, we make a donation to the Malawi Olympic Committee and the Malawi delegation that are going to Rio, Brazil. Second, we'll make a donation to the Department of Immigration.

The Olympic Games is one of the most important sporting events in the world. Dear athletes, I was told that you are working very hard in the past few years for this event. What drives you to work hard is your passion for sports and devotion for the country. Although we cannot join you in this historic event in Brazil, it is indeed a great pleasure that our well wishes can accompany you in this top level competition. In order to shoot the amazing moments so that you can share them with Malawian people at home, and in order to improve the office condition, and to facilitate your travel to Brazil, the Chinese Embassy hereby decided to donate video camera, laptops, printer, as well as travel suite cases for every delegate who are going to Rio, Brazil. The total value of donation is about 6 million Kwacha. I believe that with this support, you will bring more medals and glory back to Malawi.

      Ladies and Gentlemen,

The border control is very important for a country. It holds the key for a country's safety and security. We value the work of the Department of Immigration of Malawi. Anyway, we also know the Department of Immigration lack of proper equipments because of financial constrains. You are in dare need of equipments to deliver severices. Against this background, the Chinsese Embassy decided to come to help. We are going to donate 8 laptops and 3 printers, valued about 7 million Kwacha to the Department of Immigration this time. And we will support you more in the future. I believe the donation will improve your ability of law enforcement and service efficiency.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

China and Malawi are good brothers. We are committed to Malawi. In the future, we will do more for the development of Malawi. To conclude my remarks here, I want to give my best wishes to the Malawi Olympic delegation. I wish all the athletes show the best of your performances in Brazil, and bring more medals back to Malawi.

Thank you!
