H.E. Liu Hongyang, New Chinese Ambassador to Malawi Presents Letters of Credence to President Mutharika

On 3rd August, H.E. Liu Hongyang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to the Republic of Malawi presented Letters of Credence to H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi, and exchanged views with him on bilateral relations.

Ambassador Liu conveyed cordial greetings by President Xi Jinping to President Mutharika. Ambassador Liu said, under the leadership of H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika, Malawi has enjoyed continued economic and social progress, and elevated living standards of people. The Chinese side attaches great importance to maintaining and developing the bilateral relations and is willing to work together with the Malawian side to make the best use of the platforms of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and the Belt and Road Initiative to expand mutually beneficial cooperation, enhance bilateral ties and deliver greater benefits to both countries and peoples.

H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika asked Ambassador Liu to convey his sincere greetings and good wishes to H.E. President Xi Jinping. He warmly welcomed Ambassador Liu to Malawi and assured that he and the Malawian Government will provide strong support during Ambassador Liu's tenure of office. President Mutharika highly appreciated the development of Malawi-China relations and the fruitful achievements of bilateral cooperation in various fields since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 2007, expressed that Malawi regards China as one of the most important development partners currently. He said that the Malawian side is willing to work jointly with the Chinese side to continue to push forward bilateral friendly cooperation. He also spoke highly of the forthcoming FOCAC Summit to be held in Beijing in this September and further stated that he is looking forward to meet President Xi Jinping and discuss ways to boost Malawi-China and Africa-China friendship and all-round cooperation.

Before presenting the Letters of Credence, Ambassador Liu inspected the Guard of Honour and after the presentation, Ambassador Liu took a joint interview of Malawian media at the State House.

Ambassador Liu arrived in Malawi on 17th July, 2018 and presented the copy of the Letters of Credence to Hon. Emmanuel Fabiano, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on 20th July, 2018.
