On 31 May 2019, H.E. President Xi Jinping sent a congratulatory message to President-elect H.E. Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika of Malawi for his re-election.

H.E. President Xi Jinping pointed out in the congratulatory message that I attach great importance to the development of China-Malawi relations, and am willing to make concerted efforts with you, by seizing the opportunities of implementing the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and pushing for new achievements in the friendly cooperation between China and Malawi, to deliver greater benefits for our two countries and the two peoples.
