On 23 May, China and Malawi jointly held the handover ceremony of the China-aid Confucius Institute project. Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, H.E. Ms. Lu Xu and Malawi’s Minister of Higher Education, Hon. Dr. Jessie Kabwila signed the handover certificate.

In her speech, Ambassador Lu underscored China’s strong commitment to promoting educational and cultural exchanges with Malawi. She noted that the completion and handover of the Confucius Institute represents a new milestone in bilateral educational cooperation and a testament to the enduring friendship between the two countries. She reaffirmed China’s willingness to continue supporting the development of Malawi’s education sector and to contribute to improved educational capacity and closer people-to-people ties.

Minister Kabwila expressed sincere appreciation for China’s longstanding support. She highlighted that the Confucius Institute serves as a vital platform for cultural exchange and mutual understanding, and as an important bridge for deepening friendship between the peoples of Malawi and China. She reiterated Malawi’s readiness to work closely with China to expand educational cooperation and further advance bilateral relations.
