Chinese Embassy in Malawi holds a reception marking the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army

On 26 July 2024, Chinese Embassy in Malawi held a reception to celebrate the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA). Nearly 170 guests, including Minister of Defence, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Parliament Speaker, Chief Justice and other officials from the Malawian Government and Malawi Defence Force, as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps and Defence Attachés, overseas Chinese in Malawi joined the reception.

In his opening remarks, Defence Attaché Colonel Liu Jiahong reviewed the glorious history of the PLA and its achievements in development in the new era, highlighted that the PLA has the determination and ability to smash any "Taiwan independence" separatist attempts and thwart any foreign interference.

Honorable Harry Mkandawire, Malawian Minister of Defence delivered a speech, conveying the message of best wishes for the day from the State President Dr Lazarus McCarthy CHAKWERA who is the Commander in Chief of the Malawi Defence Force, expressing that Malawi is looking forward to enhancing the bilateral military cooperation in order to improve its defense capabilities and contribute to regional security.

In his address, Ambassador Long Zhou introduced the fruitful achievements and bright prospects of China-Africa and China-Malawi cooperation in implementing the three global initiatives (the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative and the Global Civilization Initiative), and in promoting a community with a shared future for mankind. He also elaborated on the great significance of the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee to China and the world.

Videos and pictures showing the PLA’s contributions to maintaining world peace were exhibited at the reception.
