On July 21, the Photo Exhibition Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the World Anti-Fascist War and the 80th Anniversary of the Recovery of Taiwan was jointly held by the Chinese Embassy in Malawi and the Parliament of Malawi. Chinese Ambassador to Malawi, H.E. Lu Xu and Speaker of the Parliament, Rt. Hon. Catherine Gotani Hara attended the event and delivered speeches. Members of Parliament, officials from the government and the political parties as well as students from the Kamuzu University of Health Sciences joined the exhibition.

In her speech, Ambassador Lu Xu introduced the history of the Chinese people’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression. She stated that the recovery of Taiwan to China is a victorious outcome of the World War II, and Taiwan has belonged to China since ancient times, which is proved by sound basis in history and jurisprudence. She reiterated China's resolute position on the Taiwan issue, and commended the firm adherence to the one-China principle and consistent support for China’s reunification by overall sectors of Malawi. Madam Speaker Hara said that the exhibition is a reflection of the friendly relationship between Malawi and China. Malawi will stay committed to the one-China principle and is willing to work with China to ensure the sustained and healthy development of bilateral relations.
