On 29 October, the Chinese Embassy in Malawi held a reception to celebrate the 76th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. H.E. Ambassador Lu Xu with spouse Mr. He Jun and around 300 guests attended the reception, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of State, Minister of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Minister of Industrialization, Business, Trade and Tourism, Chief of Defence, representatives of political parties, as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps and local Chinese community.

In her remarks, Mme. Lu Xu reviewed the great achievements of the People’s Republic of China over the past 76 years, introduced the Global Governance Initiative and commended the fruitful cooperation between China and Malawi since the establishment of diplomatic relations. She reaffirmed China’s readiness to strengthen the strategic partnership with Malawi and usher in a new chapter of friendship between the two countries.

Hon. George Thapatula Chaponda, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered a speech in which he extended warm congratulations on the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. He highly praised China’s development achievements, expressed gratitude to China’s continued support to Malawi in various fields and voiced his hope to elevate the bilateral relationship to a new level. 

Mme. Lu Xu presented the congratulatory letter from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the “China’s Aid and Assistance to Malawi” (CAAM, Phase I) list to Foreign Minister Hon. George Thapatula Chaponda.
