On August 21, the Chinese Embassy in Malawi held a Gala for the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and the 77th Anniversary of the Founding of the People’s Republic of China. H.E. Ambassador Lu Xu and nearly 10,000 guests attended the event, including 8 Malawi’s cabinet members, the Chief Justice, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, as well as members of the Diplomatic Corps, Chinese enterprises, institutions, Chinese compatriots and local Malawians.

Ambassador Lu Xu highly commended the achievements in various fields of cooperation, including cultural and people-to-people exchanges, since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. She expressed her expectations to further deepen friendship with Malawi, working hand in hand to advance modernization and achieve common prosperity. 

Hon. George Thapatula Chaponda, M.P., Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, fully affirmed the positive momentum in the development of Malawi-China strategic partnership. He expressed Malawi’s willingness to bridge the two nations through culture, thereby fostering deeper friendship and driving bilateral relations to new heights.

Guests enjoyed a variety of cultural performances and experienced the beauty of traditional cultures from both countries through interactive games. The event reached its peak with a spectacular drone light show, which lit up the night to waves of cheers, reflecting the shared joy of the two peoples celebrating their enduring friendship.
